Hire Right or Be Left Behind
By Michelle Alcorn
Employers—if you want top talent, you need to start acting like it.
Attracting the right people starts with one simple principle: respect. That means when you say you’re offering someone a job—do it. Not in three weeks. Not when it’s convenient. Talent doesn’t wait. The best candidates are evaluating you just as much as you’re evaluating them.
The way you treat a person during the hiring and onboarding process says everything about your company. It sets the tone for what it will be like to work with you. If the experience is unclear, slow, or filled with broken promises, expect the same return in performance and engagement.
Ask yourself:
Do you want your new team members to show up late? Then don’t be late hiring them.
Do you expect high performance for the salary you offer? Then meet the standard you’ve set.
Onboarding isn’t paperwork—it’s the beginning of your culture. Create an experience that reflects what you want employees to carry forward. Be responsive. Be honest. Be consistent.
In the end, be the kind of employer you’d want to work for.
We live in a world where people are more important than ever. If you’re serious about growth, retention, and success—hire right and treat people right.
